Recovering lawyer…

Unlike the real Kassandra, I am not an attractive red-head. I am a recovering lawyer with roughly thirty years in the trenches. Ten years working in traditional legal jobs. Twenty years building a company (I co-founded Exari) that automates the contractual part of what lawyers do.

If you’re curious, 20 years of automation projects will teach you an enormous amount. I’ve learned about publishing, banking, real estate, equipment finance, derivatives, hedge funds, health care, insurance, software, oil & gas, manufacturing and more. I’ve seen both success and failure as firms and companies tackle the challenge of doing things faster, better and cheaper. Now, working at Coupa, I’m part of a product strategy and innovation team, exploring new ways to unlock value through automation.

This blog is a way to share lessons I’ve learned, and opinions on the future. Will a robot take your job? Maybe. Do lawyers focus too much on risk avoidance, rather than risk measurement and management? Probably. Will machines read contracts more effectively than associates? Almost certainly. Is the Terminator coming to get me? Probably not.
